Bio – Helen Mitchell

Born and educated in Edinburgh. I worked in a government department for several years and was involved in teaching evening classes. I now live in New Zealand.

With an interest in education, it was suggested that I attend Teacher Training College – my focus was business (Awarded Diploma with Distinction). I taught two years at a high school then moved to the Business Department of UNITEC Institute of Technology where I was Associate Head for several years).

I was appointed by the Ministry of Education to be member of a National Task Force to contact businesses that were early entrants in the technology era to find out what was happening, the level of training and how staff were responding. This involved visiting companies using the technology and planning the training programme required for students. The Task Force repeated the exercise the following year to identify progress. I was a member of the Computer Society and on the Auckland Committee. I attended many local and international conferences.

My studies at Massey University are a BA s followed by an MBA, MBS (Knowledge Management) and a PhD (Intellectual Capital Management).   I also have an interest in UNESCO’s Lifelong Learning and the approach to encouraging people to continue learning throughout their life.
